Meet Rob Valdes and Andy Helsby – two young students from London who decided to spend their summer holiday cycling from London to Istanbul in only one month to raise money for charity. Naming their quest “Tour de Europe”, Rob and Andy plan to cover some 5000 km across the continent starting June 1st 2013 and will be donating all proceeds to Cancer Research UK.

To stay connected while they ride, Rob and Andy will be using the cardo BK-1 DUO cycling communication system. Rob won the cardo BK-1 DUO a few months ago on our “favorite cycling place” Facebook contest. Using the cardo BK-1 systems, Rob and Andy will be able to connect to their mobile phones via Bluetooth, receive in-the-ear GPS instructions and even listen to music as they ride. And when they need to talk to each other, they can easily do so via the intercom feature, warn each other of hazards ahead and truly share their cycling experience.

Rob and Andy: “Being scientists we both believe that we should support a charity working on prevention and cure of one of the growing causes of death all around the world. Rates are rising as people live longer and as mass lifestyle changes occur in the developing world.”

The two ambitious cyclists have set up a website to support their cause: http://www.tourdeeurope13.com/ and promise to update their facebook page, Twitter and YouTube channel regularly with pictures, videos stories and experiences.

We wish Rob and Andy much luck and look forward to their pictures and updates!
