Danelle Umstead is an American Alpine Skier and Paralympian who won the bronze medal at the 2010 Paralympic Games in Vancouver. She is also visually impaired but does not let that get in the way of her dream – to win the gold medal at the 2014 Paralympic Games in Sochi on February 7, 2014.
How does she do it? Well, on top of her motivation and determination, she uses the Cardo scala rider Solo communication system keeping her connected to her sighted guide, who is also her husband, and safe at all times.
As you can see in the video below, Danelle ski’s behind her husband from slope to slope, as he provides her with in-the-ear instructions, guidance and of course some encouraging words via the scala rider Solo system:
Although a communication system for motorcyclists, the scala rider Solo can also be used for Skiing and in Danelle’s case, it is vital to her safety. For more info on the scala rider Solo: http://www.cardosystems.com/scala-rider/scala-rider-solo
We at Cardo are very glad to learn and see how our products can help people like Danelle and wish her much luck for 2014!
