Visually Impaired Paralympic Bronze Medalist Skier, Danelle Umstead, training for gold using scala rider Solo

Danelle Umstead is an American Alpine Skier and Paralympian who won the bronze medal at the 2010 Paralympic Games in Vancouver. She is also visually impaired but does not let that get in the way of her dream – to win the gold medal at the 2014 Paralympic Games in Sochi on February 7, 2014.


How does she do it? Well, on top of her motivation and determination, she uses the Cardo scala rider Solo communication system keeping her connected to her sighted guide, who is also her husband, and safe at all times.

As you can see in the video below, Danelle ski’s behind her husband from slope to slope, as he provides her with in-the-ear instructions, guidance and of course some encouraging words via the scala rider Solo system:
